| Vincenzo Amato's
Eighth solo exhibition at the Earl McGrath Gallery, opens October 17th
and will remain on view until November 15th, 2008.
In this exhibition Vincenzo Amato presents his artwork from the last two
years. The work is made out of plywood (scavenged from New York City construction
sites) on which Amato has created colorful panels, representing flowers,
trees, creatures, the ocean and landscapes. The exhibition also includes
recent lacquered steel sculptures.
Born in 1966 in Palermo, Sicily, Vincenzo Amato began working with steel
as a designer and fabricator of steel furniture in Rome. Living on the
Lower East Side since 1993, he has worked for the City of New York building
steel structures, and assisted the artists Chryssa and Jim Dine. In addition,
Amato was the sole representative of young Italian artists at the Seventh
International Cairo Biennale. Amato has exhibited internationally in Rome,
Palermo, Milan and Rio de Janeiro; he has been showing at the Earl McGrath
Gallery, New York and Los Angeles since 1997.
