New Works in Wood and Steel

Vincenzo Amato's Eighth solo exhibition at the Earl McGrath Gallery, opens October 17th and will remain on view until November 15th, 2008.
In this exhibition Vincenzo Amato presents his artwork from the last two years. The work is made out of plywood (scavenged from New York City construction sites) on which Amato has created colorful panels, representing flowers, trees, creatures, the ocean and landscapes. The exhibition also includes recent lacquered steel sculptures.

Born in 1966 in Palermo, Sicily, Vincenzo Amato began working with steel as a designer and fabricator of steel furniture in Rome. Living on the Lower East Side since 1993, he has worked for the City of New York building steel structures, and assisted the artists Chryssa and Jim Dine. In addition, Amato was the sole representative of young Italian artists at the Seventh International Cairo Biennale. Amato has exhibited internationally in Rome, Palermo, Milan and Rio de Janeiro; he has been showing at the Earl McGrath Gallery, New York and Los Angeles since 1997.
