| The exhibit of David Trulli, at the Earl McGrath Gallery Los Angeles, is his first solo show with the gallery. Trulli's work illustrates the effect of technology on urban life through the medium of scratchboard. The exhibition will feature new images created this year. David Trulli starts with a white clay-coated board covered with black ink. Trulli then uses fine knives to delicately scrape the ink away; as a result he produces a dynamic image. David leaves it to the viewer to fill in the emotions, motivations, and stories of the characters within. The viewer's expectation of technology and its real impact is a theme that runs through all of Trulli's work. As David states, "Technology marches through our human landscape, connecting and alienating us at the same time. Even though it is our own creation, technology is ambivalent to us and to the human stories unfolding around it. In my work I focus on these stories, taking place in this landscape." David Trulli was born in 1960 in Ossining, New York and came to Los Angeles, California in 1979. Trulli has had a full-page profile in the Los Angeles Times and was commissioned by the American Cinematheque for a scratchboard of the historic Egyptian Theater. He has had two sold-out shows during the past year. David currently resides in Los Feliz, California and has a studio in Hollywood. |
