Jeff Kowatch
Jeff Kowatch uses handcrafted oils and pigments to create abstractions that possess both a muted sense of depth and radiance. This meticulous approach, complimented by Kowatch's expert use of composition and color, creates, through the juxtaposition of opaque and transparent forms, an entirely ambiguous space. Behind the sheen of his perfectly smooth canvases, fields of color merge into one another, conveying a playful interaction of iridescent elements. Kowatch has had three solo exhibitions with the Earl McGrath Gallery. His work has been featured in numerous gallery group shows, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Laguna Art Museum and the Long Beach Museum of Art. A series of paintings titled "The Twelve Apostles" was exhibited at New York's James Chapel of the Union Theological Seminary in 1997. Jeff Kowatch was born and educated in Los Angeles and now lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.
