Marden was born October 15, 1938, in Bronxville, New York. he received
his B.F.A from the Boston University School of Fine Arts and went on to
attend Yale University receiving an M.F.A. degree in 1963. Marden is one
of the leading American minimal abstractionists creating monochromatic works
of art. The range of his imagery is narrow, but the body of work he has
produced is unsurpassed for its focus and consistent progression. Marden
investigates the subtle harmonies and optical effects obtained by juxtaposing
broad areas of similar hues with different values of light and dark. The
artist lives and works in New York and Hydra Greece. |
